SOLOMON’S MID-LIFE
CRISES
For some time now, I have been praying that
the churches would include the warning to couples about what the world calls “mid-life crises.”
It’s just another un-expected attack by Satan to undermine especially our young men…the
backbone of our family. I don’t hear the church preparing young people for this. As
an old saying goes: To be fore-warned is to be fore-armed. Putting on our armor after the
enemy is already upon us…is a painful struggle that could be avoided if aware of this potential
danger and weapon of Satan.
I couldn’t help but think of the fall
of Solomon in his end days. The very things his mother warned him about (women), is the very thing
that brought him down.

I thought of his beautiful love letters in the
Song of Solomon. No wonder they were so graphic. The very love God meant for His Bride, Solomon
eventually attached to his lust for women in his end days.
Everyone has a weakness. As wise as he
was…as many warnings as he received; as much as he was taught; the fame and fortune God poured
out on him…he still lost his “glory” at the end of his life.
GOD’S
GLORY FILLED THE TEMPLE

After Solomon dedicated the temple he built
to the Lord, 2 Chronicles 7:1-3 says that the Glory of the Lord FILLED the temple. Praise God! What
a joyous occasion. Many are still experiencing this today and others
Desiring it. Then the Lord
made a
Covenant with Solomon.

A covenant works two ways. So God told
Solomon all the great things He would do for him if Solomon would walk after Him and observe His ways. But
He also warned him what his life would be like if he did not. This covenant can be read
in 2 Chronicles 7:17-22). Chapter 8 tells of all the fame and riches God gave Solomon according
to the first part of the covenant.
I feel certain that Solomon had every intention
of remaining true to God to the very end. But how sad; I Kings 11:1 says:
“But king Solomon loved many strange
women….”

Verse 3 says, “And he had
seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.” So,
I Kings 11:11 tells how God removed Solomon’s Earthly Crown of Glory although He extended
mercy toward him.

Yes, Solomon lost his “glory” at
the end of his life. Did he have a Mid-Life Crises? I would say so. Yes, we probably
all do about that time of our life…but it doesn’t have to be the same one Solomon had. We
have been fore warned.
Little crowns, little glories compared to God’s,
yet important to us, and significant to God. Earthly crowns…earthly glory, not to be compared
to what awaits us with Him.
Should a mid-life crises come upon us, this
is the time to hold on to the strength we have (Jesus) so that we will not lose our crown of “glory”. The
Lord says: “Behold (look) I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man
(or woman) take thy crown.” (Revelations 3:11).
AND HE PROMISES
“When the Chief Shepherd
shall appear, ye shall
receive a “crown of glory” that
fadeth not away.” (I Peter 5:4). And verse 10 says that the God of ALL
Grace hath called us unto His Eternal Glory by Christ Jesus.
We are promised Heavenly Crowns, but oh I pray,
that we will not lose our earthly crowns because we have not heeded the advice Solomon received. Even
Solomon’s earthly father taught him in Proverbs 4:9, to embrace “wisdom” because
she would give to his head a crown of glory. Through love, grace, and wisdom we can be prepared
to avoid this trap called Mid-Life Crises.
