KINDLING
IS
IMPORTANT
When
we use to make a campfire, we would gather many small sticks called “kindling”. No
one ever thought of trying to use a match to light one big log.
Once
the small sticks were criss-crossed, they quickly began to ignite each other.
Perhaps
you never realized the effect the kindling has on the big logs. You might see the leader of
your church, your pastor, evangelist…the one on stage delivering God’s Word, as the
most important big timber in the fire.
But,
they too, began as a small piece of kindling. Someone touched them, they connected with another,
and were eventually placed into the role of leadership. In other words, they became a big log.
I’ve
watched leaders as they speak the Word of God…which is a Fire Itself, but it is the “kindling”,
sitting in the pews, that God uses to spur these leaders on.
If
the pews are empty…there will be no place for the big logs. If the kindling is damp and
unresponsive, the Big Log, will begin to fizzle out.
“Sparks
of Life in the Church”
When
a preacher looks at the audience, the first thing he needs to see is “sparks” of life. He
looks for these precious pieces of kindling to promote the fire of his sermon.
If
he is a godly man, he has spent time before the Lord. God has given him a message…and
he will deliver it, but his fire power is expanded or decreased by the prayers of the kindling.
Have
you ever had a preacher’s eyes make contact with yours? He saw a “spark”. Perhaps
you were intently desiring to receive each word of God that he was teaching. You didn’t
realize that you were inspiring him to preach the Word with more boldness. You didn’t
realize that the spark God gave you, had purpose for the whole congregation.
Who Sparks
Your Fire?
Often,
people do not congregate with other believers because they don’t feel needed. Their idea
of what is important has been affected by what the world says is important.
Yes,
they may be a Sunday School teacher, and that is good. They may hold some high position in the
local church…and if this satisfies them, they may never understand that whether they are on
the platform or in a pew, if the kindling is wet, so will be the message.
We
are present to support the message. The messenger will have the degree of
power in his sermon that he receives from the kindling; the sincere fire of the Holy Spirit…brought
to church with the Believer…not only expecting the Big Log to light his fire, but knowing,
as kindling, he purposes to be a part of the Big Fire that will affect all those present.
