ASK
“All
you have to do is Ask!”
God
gives Only Good Gifts.
(Matthew
7:10-11)
“Oh
Father, how very refreshing is this revelation. I see now how I have used this verse in the past. But
You have a better plan: a much easier one. Thanks.”
For
years I read this scripture backwards. I went from “knock” to “seek”…and
when I worked my way up to “ask”…I didn’t feel worthy to “Ask”. Or,
I didn’t understand that all I had to do was “Ask”. You see, I was just learning
about God’s ways and I was still in the “works” mode.
I
vaguely remember the first time I leaned on it. I had a strong desire to talk to the Athletic
Director where I worked. I was afraid to talk to him but felt I must. So, to stir up my courage,
I decided I had sought out the information I needed to present to him. Then I needed the boldness
to confront him. My knock on the field house door was actually my spiritual “knock” as
well.
As
far as I remember, it worked out to my advantage, but oh what a strain I put myself through when: “All
I had to do was Ask”.
The
second lesson I learned, even this morning as we are always learning in our Lord, was:
“You
asked the wrong person.”
Instead
of asking and expecting something from the Athletic Director, I should have asked God. His answer
is always “Yea” and “Amen”…when it is in our best interests. (Matthew
7:9-11).
Man,
athletic director, etc. have only their interests at heart. God has ours.
So,
today my eyes are open to the very first step in this scripture. “All I have to do is ASK.” How
simple! How refreshing! How uncluttered! How very loved this makes me feel. How
very accepted by God.
As
I was meditating on God yesterday, just enjoying the beauty of His world of nature, He enlightened
me with this question.
“Did
you hesitate to ask your earthly husband to bring home a loaf of bread, or fire up the bar-b-q pit
when you had company? You knew this was his part in your relationship. Were there certain
things you automatically expected him to do just because he was your husband? Did you feel unworthy
or guilty when you “asked” him to check the oil in your car or buy new tires?
“No
Sir, Lord.”, I replied.
“Then,
why do you feel unworthy to Ask Me for things you need or desire? Are we not partners? Am
I not your Heavenly Husband? All you have to do is ASK.” And He smiled.
Then
He continued, “I may not get to it exactly on your timing (just as your earthly husband may not),
but I will do it.
“Ask
and ye shall receive. It’s as simple as that. You can dismiss the other two
steps for now…if you want to unclutter your life and walk in peace with Me today. Just trust Me
and Me only.”
“Sounds
great to me, Lord.”, I said. “I don’t know how You do things like this…to
drop such a refreshing knowing in my spirit. And really, I don’t want to even get
bogged down today in trying to figure it out. I just want to live today in what You have revealed
to me.
ASK…and
ye shall receive…But even more basically…just ASK….
“ASK”
My
mind nearly explodes with all the possibilities of simply “Asking” because our Lord has “asked” us
to. Maybe your thoughts expand also into this loving relationship, that it is God’s
desire for you to ASK.
Don’t
be shy! ASK…that your JOY may be FULL. John 16:24. (Refer again please to Fresh Bread

[Purpose of Fresh Bread is not
to cover all areas of a lesson, but hopefully to whet the appetite so others will search out and
meditate on God’s Word for themselves. Angel Food and Fresh Bread are both meant to Keep
the Menu Simple…so that we can go forth with something as uncomplicated as one Word…to
sustain us through a given day. For those who are interested in the ingredients in this serving,
please go to your concordance, look up the word “ask” and even write out the scriptures.
God used many scriptures to feed
me this word, but the main one is: Matthew 7:7-11.]

ALL
YOU HAVE TO DO IS
“ASK”.
