GOD BE WITH
So-and-So
(What does this mean?)

Have you ever prayed this prayer?  I have.  Many times:  and, especially when I am praying for many or when someone’s name comes to my mind.
But, does that simple prayer somehow feel insufficient?  Your love for that person makes you want to pray a prayer that has more substance.  Besides, God says He is always with us already.  So, what are we saying?  Is this a useless prayer?
♫God be with you…till we meet again♫

Words from the rest of this old song seem to bring more substance:
♫By Your counsels guide us (them), With Your Love securely fold them.♫
Yes, we can picture that.  Those are things we desire for those we love.  If this is what we mean when we pray, “God, be with “so and so”…then our prayer carries more substance for our need to pray for them.

WHERE DID THIS PRAYER
COME FROM?

Where did this prayer come from anyway?  Was it handed down to us from our parents?  Or is there a more Biblical source?
Nothing satisfies my need to pray as much as the prayer Jesus prays for us in John 17.  We want to pray like He prays.
In verse 15, Jesus didn’t ask His Father (and our Father) to take us out of this world, but to keep us from the evil one.

SO

So, another good prayer we can pray for those we love is:  “Father, as You are with So-and-So today, I pray the prayer Your Son prays, that You keep “So-and-So” from the evil one.  And that Your will be done in their life today as it is in Heaven.”

Thank You Father.

Today I Pray for “So and So”
That
AS GOD IS WITH THEM

He protects them from the evil one.
He counsels, guides, and holds them,
With His Arms.
He securely folds them in His
LOVE
