EXCESS
“Safety in Simplicity”
Good stories always have happy endings. So, stay with me, please.
Table = shulxan = שולמחך
The table was set for a simple meal. But, before the cook realized it, she had over-cooked. One dish at a time, she placed many dishes on the table…shifting one to the right side and one to the left, making room for more. Soon, there was no more room on the table (shulxan) and she had to place extra food and drinks on the side board or in the kitchen.
“Oh my, her guests would never be able to eat all of this,” she thought, when she realized she had over-cooked.
But, Surprise! Here they came and began to load their plates. They ate, and ate, and ate, until they were miserable.
EXCESS
If we own a television, computer, telephone, read the newspaper, or just hear the local gossip or prayer concerns, there is no way we can deny that perilous times have come.
We could just as well read II Timothy 3:1-13 ending with verse 13, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.”
Where do we find comfort in the midst of this? Where do we find direction? Of course, it’s all in God’s Word. It’s not like we never knew this would happen. And, of course, we have the comfort of knowing the end of it all. But what do we do in the mean time?
MAY I MAKE A
SUGGESTION?
Whatever our Lord has called you to do at this time, may I encourage you to do it with Simplicity?
THE WORLD IS WORKING
ON
EXCESS

The world is spinning out of control in Excess.
Over spending
Over eating
Over reading
Over working
Over planning
Over speaking
Everything going to extremes and over done.
EXCESS:
Too many gods
Too many teachers
Too many books
Too many toys
(Honey is good but too much honey makes a man sick.)
SAFETY IN SIMPLICITY
Many temptations may come attempting to draw us into the world’s system. We must keep our life as simple as possible.
Don’t over do.
Don’t over eat.
Don’t over work.
Don’t over plan.
We must learn to eat the food our Lord puts on our table daily. We can TRUST Him that it is pure and uncontaminated by the world when we keep it simple.
THERE IS
EXCESS
(Too many Voices)
Too many spiritual teachers, books, toys___information, hurry. Too many religions; too many gods.
OVER ABUNDANCE OF
INFORMATION
I guess what I am trying to say is that this overabundance of information can be dangerous. And, that Simplicity, can be a safety net for us at this time.
CLEAR THE TABLE
Now, let’s clear the table and start over. No clutter. No excess. Just the sweetest, simplest meal we can think of today. For me, it is Matthew 22:37-39. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind,…and love thy neighbor as thyself.”
SIMPLE DISH
You may have a different simple dish today. Our Lord provides many to choose from. But, today is a good day to PRACTICE SIMPLICITY.
So, whatever I do today, I choose not to over-indulge. Rather I shall try not to eat (partake) of more than is sufficient. Whatever I do today, I pray that I will do it with SIMPLICITY.
Simple Truth _ Simple Faith _ Simple Love
