“TAKE IT ON THE CHIN”

The funniest thing happened this morning.  Our Lord speaks in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform.
When I looked in my bathroom mirror, I began to laugh.  On my chin was a reddish-brown circle that made me look like Charlie Chan with a goatee.  For those who don’t know what a goatee is, it’s a small beard only on the chin.  Like one would see on a goat.
Now, I know I’m not a goat, so my message would be more for a boxer who often has to:  Take It On The Chin.
Praise God!  Through my Hebrew classes I am making friends all over the world and I am sure many of them have never heard this term.  Perhaps by the time I finish this story, they will understand what we mean in America by this term.
LAMA?

Remember the Hebrew word I shared with you?  “Lama”.  It means, “Why?”  למה ?
Yesterday, for several good reasons, I decided to take my dog (kelev-
כלב ) Banjo walking.  I felt I was so on target with God’s plan for my day.
At some point I was distracted and curious about something I saw in the field on my left.  Wondering if it were a baby deer or an ant bed, I wanted to be sure.
The next step I took forward…was in a big hole our car tires had made on our country lane, created during a rainy season, but now dry.  I always avoided it with my car as I drove in and out from my home to the highway.
But, today, enjoying my walk (holekh-הולך ) I was looking somewhere else.
And, SPLAT!  The next thing I knew, I was on my face…kissing the dirt.  WOW!  What happened?  Nothing missing, nothing broken, but felt like I had been slammed into a brick wall.

LAMA?

When I decided it was time to sit up, my faithful kelev, Banjo, was still on his leash waiting for me.  He came and sat near me as we considered our situation.
All was well.  And, after we took our breath…or ‘hit on the chin’, you could say, we continued our lovely walk.

BRENT

As my son Brent asked me in the past, “Mom, what did you learn from this?”, there are many things I learned.  Not enough room here to share them all.  But, you can believe our Lord and I had a lot to talk about, consider, and be grateful about.  For instance, the confession I pray each morning that, “No weapon formed against me shall prosper, and that He gives His angels charge over me.  When I fall, it is not fatal.”

THE LESSON FOR TODAY

The most obvious lesson I learned today was:  How to:

TAKE IT ON THE CHIN!

In other words, just take the hit and go on.  Not to worry.  All is well!
