Fresh Bread # 131
LONESOME DOVE REAL MEN

Last night as I sat on the couch paying my bills,
I watched a long movie. It was “Lonesome Dove”.
Oh, how many lessons of God’s Love were shown in the lives of these
brave men and women! Good and evil, strength and weakness, loyalty and deceit, endurance and giving in; they all had some
of each.
Not one of these people were perfect, nor did they claim to be, but each
main character had something good in them. Those with an inner strength were the ones who challenged us to follow them.
No, they were not perfect, but their own kind of loyalty, gentleness, and
kindness drew our respect and made us want to be like them.
In the long run, it seemed to be their very weakness that made them strong.
SONS OF GOD

There was no preacher
in the group. Yet, each exhibited special characteristics
of their Creator. Each was equipped to play a role in life with a spirit of adventure and hope; yet a respect for death when
it came. Tender hearts cried over the loss of a friend, reverence and respect and only a few words searched out from the
depth of a soul, were spoken over their grave. The one able to find the words, spoke
for them all.

Then,
the one who had the strength to say, “We have work to do.”,
led the others away from the grave and back on the course of life.
WHAT IS A REAL MAN
OR
WOMAN?

I think in this movie, God was showing us a better
picture of real men and women. His creations. His sons and daughters who have characteristics
like Him…made in His image…with an inner ability to Love, forgive, and press on against all
odds to follow their dreams no matter the cost. To live each day to the full, knowing it could be
their last. Accepting weaknesses in themselves and others. Following the strong and helping
the weak along the way.
EVIL

Yes,
evil was portrayed, too. Especially by the renegade Indian who
killed just because he liked to kill. He was evil through and through. Our heroes never discounted his ability to kill,
maim, and destroy. They were not afraid of him, but knew his ways and craftiness.
And when the time came, they had no mercy on him. They were
glad to see him dead.
FOR YOU SEE
He was the seed of Satan. So
different from the sons of God.
A REAL MAN?

Yes,
I believe a real man, after our Lord’s own heart, is both strong
and tender. He is strong and brave on the outside, but has a tender heart of mercy.
He may express it in different ways, as these men expressed their tender
hearts in different ways.
GOD NEVER STOPS
GIVING

God never stops trying to reach His children. As
a Drama Major, I have a high appreciation of everyone involved in creating this film. Most of all,
for our Lord who implanted the idea into the producer.
The actors were purposely cast and their training and intuitiveness could
not have come without life experiences, training, and visions of their own. God prepared them.
MEN AFTER GOD’S OWN
HEART

This
is a movie created in modern times with all the advanced knowledge our Lord produces daily for those
who have “ears to hear” and for those who will hear as He draws them
to Himself in many ways.
In this movie, the producer can make things turn out the way he wants them
to. Don’t forget that the Great Producer is doing the same.
FANTASY OR FACT

Isn’t
it amazing how people will watch a movie and miss the whole picture? Isn’t it amazing how
many have never read about David in the Bible? And the many other Mighty Men and
women of God? These stories
are true and real. They far exceed the imagined adventures we see in movies today.
MODERN DAY MEN

Yet, God still has modern day Davids and Lonesome Doves in all walks
of life. He had them on the frontier and today all over the world. Our Greatest example of manhood is still Jesus as
he cherishes the Inner Man of our heart that many may never see. (I Peter 3:4).
And as Pilate said of our Hero in John 19:5b
“BEHOLD….THE….MAN!!!”
JESUS
BEHOLD THE MAN….

THE MAN JESUS

For
John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, he hath a devil.
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Behold a
man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners.”
But, wisdom is justified of her children.
Matthew 11:18-19 spoken by Jesus.
