“WANNA GO WALKING?”

“WALK-ABOUTS”
Did you ever
picture yourself walking down a country lane with Jesus? I have. Many times.
Peace, quiet, so many questions to ask and answers to hear.
When we see
pictures of Jesus walking with His disciples, we know they had a long way to go
and plenty of time for Him to teach them. Oh, that must have been wonderful.
Well, we can still
do that today.
“WALK-ABOUTS”
My friend Linda
calls these spiritual walks, “walk-abouts”.
At first I wasn’t
certain what she meant until it happened to me. It’s literally walking through
the Bible as led by the Holy Spirit. It’s a great way to read and study God’s
Word.
FIRST STEP

While in prayer and
reading the Bible, a specific word will come to your mind. Or, a question or a
scripture. It peaks your interest and you want to know more about it.
SECOND STEP
So, you go to your
concordance and see what else the Bible has to say about that word.
THIRD STEP
There may be a long
list of references, but only certain ones connect with what you are meditating
on in your spirit. They begin to reinforce something that is in your heart, to
bring you to a satisfactory conclusion of what you are seeking. So, your
spirit and natural mind are working together to come into agreement, but it is
your spirit that is being fed and satisfied.
FOURTH STEP
As you read certain
scriptures, they lead you to others. Soon, you are picking up speed and moving
right along.
FIFTH STEP
The walk becomes so
intriguing that you don’t want to stop. Hopefully the country lane (TIME) is
long enough that you will not come to the end of it before you are satisfied…at
least, temporarily.
SIXTH STEP
This is a great
spiritual exercise that invigorates you and gives you a sense of well being to
meet your day.
SEVENTH STEP
Then the phone
rings, or a family member needs your attention. By the Spirit, you realize you
have come to the end of your “Walk-About” for this day or time.
WITH GOD THERE IS ALWAYS
MORE
While on earth,
there will always be the times when we must take what we learned on our
“walk-abouts” and “be about the Father’s business” (Luke 2:49) which will be
earthly chores or assignments. But, it is on these early morning walks where
we gather information and renewed energy for the day.
We may have
discussed so much while walking, that I like to keep a KEY WORD before me as I
walk through my day. That one word will sum up all we talked about on our walk
down the country lane and through the Bible.
It becomes my guide
for that day.
EXERCISE
Our natural body
has been trained to walk, but our spirit man seems to need constant training
and direction on how to “walk-about” with Jesus.
I Timothy 4:7b-8,
says: “Exercise thyself unto godliness. For bodily exercise profits little:
but godliness (spiritual exercise) is profitable unto ALL things, having
promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”

WHAT TO CALL IT
Many of you are
already taking these regular walks with Jesus. But, until I met Linda, I didn’t
know what to call them.
Now, I call them
what she calls them:
Walk – Abouts
Enjoy your walk today.
Keep on Walking
Don’t leave Jesus at the end of the lane.
Take Him with you wherever you go today.
