Ears To Hear # 70
SPIRIT OF POVERTY
The
Spirit of Poverty is not from God. He is a God of Abundance who supplies more than we could think
or ask. He supplies all our needs with more than enough to share with others.
This
is true in the natural as well as the spiritual. Many people may come to the understanding that
God desires to bless us in the natural but they may feel they have come up short in spiritual gifts. These
people are also suffering from a Spirit of Poverty.
It
hurts to be poor in natural gifts or spiritual gifts. God desires that we recognize our abundant
blessings in both. So that we may share liberally with others.
THE
BEGINNING OF POVERTY
When
you were young someone may have told you that you were poor and you accepted that because you didn’t
know any better. But you decided to do something about it. You were determined not to remain
poor. You worked hard and
furthered your education the best you knew how.
And,
in most cases, you prospered above what you grew up believing. You prospered in
more ways than your original family.
SPIRITUAL POVERTY
At
some point you realized there was more to life than financial prosperity and your heart began to cry
for more. The natural was not enough to make you feel rich. You wanted to be rich. You
had places to go, things to do, dreams to fulfill. But there was never enough. You still
felt poor.
Many
people in the church today are walking in Spiritual Poverty. They have been convinced that they
have nothing to offer God or each other. But
that is not what God’s Word says.
Oh,
I wish I could record the abundance of words and scriptures our Lord gave me this morning that prove
different. Perhaps I could convince someone that God has provision for all of us to be abundantly
wealthy in the natural and the spiritual.
Until
we learn to believe this, it is doubtful that we can receive the wonderful gifts God has available
for all of His children.
HOW
DO WE LEARN TO BELIEVE?
“Is
it a secret?”
“So
then faith [cometh] by
hearing, and
hearing
by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17).
I
wish I could remember which year it was, but I do remember when Pat Robertson declared The Year
of the Bible. People began to read the Bible more than ever before. Now, the number of
readers, and their time in the Word, has expanded all over the world. People began to read the
Bible for themselves instead of expecting a priest or pastor to read it for them. They are finding
so much “wealth” in it that no one needs to tell them to read. They are seeking on
their own and God is providing them with abundant revelation of His Will.
“It is
God’s will that we prosper in all things, and be in health, even as our souls
prosper.” When we understand that it is God’s will, we are able to submit to
receiving the fullness of His favor not only financially but spiritually. (3 John 2).
As
parts of the Body of Christ, we each desire to see His Kingdom flourish. We each desire to have
physical and spiritual gifts to help. The truth is, that both are available. God doesn’t
say only “one” or the “other.” He says “both.” He is
no respecter of persons and does not parcel out His gifts. They are all available when we seek
them in His Word.
We
can only believe something we know. And how can we know God’s promises when we do not read
His Word or have been taught the whole truth from the riches of His Word?
So,
I thank my God for the Grace He has given us all, so that in EVERYTHING we are ENRICHED by Him, so
that we (none of us) come behind in any gift…as we are waiting for the coming of our Lord
Jesus Christ. (Paraphrased from I Corinthians l:4-7).
|
Now I beseech you, brethren,
by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and [that] there
be no divisions among you; but [that] ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and
in the same judgment. I Corinthians 1:10.

Provision
is available. All we have to do is ask (l John 5:14) both for our natural man as well as our spiritual
man…so that we all have abundance to give out of our overflow…whether physical or spiritual…all
to the Glory of God.
“And
this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will,
He hears us: And if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions
that we desire of Him.” (I John 5:14).
It
is our Father’s desire to see His children prosper in all areas of our lives. He delights
to see our souls prosper and He delights to see the work of our hands prosper. He desires that
all “spirits of poverty” be eliminated from our vocabulary. Whether referring to spiritual
gifts or natural gifts. No more will we speak of lack, or poverty…for He has made us rich in
all areas. When we believe this enough to speak it, it will manifest in our lives. And
this will please our Lord abundantly.
