Ears To Hear # 40
TRUE
MEASURE OF THE HEART
OUT
OF THE ABUNDANCE
OF
THE HEART
“A
good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man
out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of
the
abundance
of
the
heart his mouth speaketh.” (Luke 6:45).
Have
you ever been talking to someone and words came out of your mouth, that you inspected later, and realized
they really were not what your heart felt? So why did you speak them?
True! Love
Words… do come from the overflow and abundance of our heart toward others. When Love is
so FULL, it cannot help but overflow. And even hate words do the same.
But
what about these little In-Between Words? Words playing off of the words of a friend, or an acquaintance
who may not know how to have a relationship with the Lord?
When
I checked some of my words yesterday, the Holy Spirit allowed me to see that I was falling into a trap
of saying what I thought someone else would want to hear. Since Faith cometh by hearing (Romans
10:17), I was hearing my own words and beginning to accept things in error.
I
was accepting another person’s presence more than the presence of our Lord…who of course,
was watching the whole scene. Surely He was confident that the Holy Spirit would correct me gently
later and show me what I was doing.
The
same is true when speaking to someone who knows the Lord well. We will often say things to impress
them. We so delight in “Being on the Same Page.” But we must strive for honesty
from our heart.
When
we become aware of who we are trying to impress and come into agreement with, it might be well to remember
the agreement we made with God…about issues in our life. Then stand on that, so that the
words that flow out of our mouth are a True Measure of our Heart.
“Set
a
watch, O LORD, before
my
mouth; keep the door of my lips.” (Psalm 141:3).

If
we don’t know and can’t speak the Truth,
It
might be well to
Remain
Silent…Until we Can
