Ears To Hear # 2
TO
THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE
(no
apologies necessary)
♫My
God and I
Walk
through the fields together.
We
walk and talk,
As
good friends should and do.
We
clasp our hands,
Our
voices ring with laughter.
My
God and I,
Walk
through the meadow’s hue.♫
I
find it interesting that beautiful songs like the one above, have been sung for years, as only wistful
dreams. Yet, today, when we tell someone that a song like this has become a reality for us,
even the Christian world becomes skeptical. Many cannot believe that God’s children can
literally walk and talk, laugh and sing, with their Lord. They can’t believe that an earthly
being can hold God’s Hand; that God, the creator of the universe and all that exists, would
reach down, draw His children to His bosom, hold them tight, and say to their spirit, “I love
you more than you can ever imagine.”
The
proof of all that I have just written can be found in His Word.
RABBIT TRAILS
Well,
I found myself taking a few “rabbit trails” getting off the beaten path. I will
save you the time of reading those things and try to stick to the main subject. However, just
for your information, the Holy Spirit can teach us a lot even when we go down those “rabbit
trails.” Ha.
TO
THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE
What
does this mean to you? Do you really know the person God created you to be?
Religious
tradition and fear that man will think we are prideful has often prevented us from accepting who
we really are. Each one different; each one precious in the eyes of our Heavenly Father.
A
precious friend, my dear son, blessed me recently by sending me some very thought provoking questions. My
greatest joy was that he wanted to know who I really am. He wanted to understand me better. He
was ready to accept what I said.
In
response to such an honor, I was required to look at myself. As God has always wanted us to
know the Real Him, our hearts have always desired that others know the Real Us.
How
shall they know unless we tell them? How shall we know unless we are honest with ourselves?
What
an opportunity! Someone really wants to know us. It’s beyond religion: it’s
true love. It’s an honest desire to understand the person God has created us to be. Not
only the spiritual, but also the natural.
In
my search of TRUTH, so I could be True To Myself and to others, I accepted some simple things about
who I am at this time in my life. When I was younger, it was different…but today, I accept
who I am today. The roots have always been there, I just never had the time or vision to see
them.
God
created me so that, TODAY:
1. I love living in the
country. I don’t like the noise of the city.
2. I prefer a warm humble
home more than the elaborate houses I use to design in my mind.
3. I
now like cowboys more than men in 3-piece suits.
4. I
enjoy people more than things.
5. I
enjoy intimate relationships more than frivolous ones.
6. I
just like a place called HOME.
Hey,
it’s okay that you are completely different from me. None of it matters, except that you
begin to recognize who you really are. When you do, don’t be afraid to accept the person
God created you to be.
Do
you think the giraffe apologizes to the leopard for being a giraffe? I don’t think so. Often,
I feel that we subconsciously apologize to others for not being like them. Christ is
our example.
My
son said, “I want to know…what makes you happy? What gets you excited? Who
do you fellowship with?” For a start, you might like to answer these questions for yourself. My
greatest JOY was that “he wanted to know.”
My
prayer for you today, is that you will recognize who you are, then, To Your Own Self be True.
How
can we be true to God, when we have not accepted the person He created? How can we be True to
others, when we are not True to ourselves?
This
is not a selfish endeavor. It is a very wise one, knowing that I am speaking to people who have
learned how to be True to God above all things and all people…including themselves.
However,
as God abides in you and His seed remains in you, I ask you to be True to what He has created you
to be. Ask Him to begin revealing His truths to you. They are all good, not bad. He
is a good God, and loves you very much. Look for the good that God sees in you and ask Him to
help you accept it.
“Ye
shall know the truth (the real you) and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:32). You
will never have to apologize to another person for who you are. You honor God by accepting who
He has created you to be.
To
thine own self be true…then you can be true to God and others.
SEEING
THE HAND OF GOD
MOVING
FOR ME TODAY!
A
fun thing just happened for me. I don’t count it as chance but as a special blessing to
me from the Lord. I could not remember where this saying came from and knew it wasn’t
scripture. I couldn’t even remember the last part of it. So I did a search on the
internet and began to laugh because it was not only from Shakespeare which we studied at Baylor,
under the direction of Paul Baker, but more specifically from Hamlet which no Baylor Theater
student should ever forget if they were there when I was. Burgess
Meredith and Charles Laughton were present to perform in this play along with the drama students.
I
remember very little about Hamlet, so isn’t it interesting how this one line remained in my
thoughts? And the ending was exactly what I was trying to express in this “Ears to Hear” report.
“To
thine own self be true; and it must follow,
as
night the day thou can’st not then be false
to
any man.” (Hamlet, Act l, Scene 3).
(From
a study I did on Shakespeare, as far as I can understand, it surprised me to find out that He had
great faith in God.)
CAN WE DO IT?
CAN WE BE TRUE TO OUR OWN SELVES
AND STILL ACCEPT OURSELVES? GOD DOES!
I
BELIEVE WE CAN!

AT
LEAST IT’S WORTH A TRY
